Rocket Spelling

In class we have a thing called rocket spelling. There's 50 levels in rocket spelling. Each level has a list of words. You start at a random level depending on how good you are already and try to level up by getting 25 words in your list right, but before you can have a test you have to do two activities that have to do with your spelling words. So one of them might be,
make a word search using your spelling words, or match up some synonyms. The words get harder as you level up. The purpose of it is so you learn some new words and get better at spelling. I started at level 11 and now I'm on level 22 and I want to try to get up to level 25 before the end of the year.

Camp

On the 21st to the 24th of November 2011 all of the year 6's went on camp to Borland Lodge.  It was called the adventure camp.  It was called the adventure camp because we were on an adventure doing lots of different things.  On camp we did a hike, a tyrolean traverse thing, outdoor cooking, horizontal bungee, archery, rafting, rock climbing, low ropes course, air rifle shooting, bivvy building, abseiling river swimming, a night walk and the Shrek games which we had to eat disgusting food and get 1st and 2nd out of 8 people to earn points for your group so your group can win a prize.  My favourite things on camp were the abseiling, the rafting, the bivvy building and the camp fire.  I liked the abseiling because it was really fun being at a high height and walking backwards on a wall.  I liked the rafting because we could push people of the raft, get pushed of the raft, go through the rapids and get wet.  I liked the bivvy building because we got to find big logs, sticks and dead plant pieces lying on the ground and got to make a hut in the bush in groups.  Some of us were going to sleep in them but it was a bit too wet.  And I liked the camp fire because we got to stay up late, make smores and talk around the fire.  They were all really fun.  What I didn't like so much on camp was the Shrek games.  It made me feel a bit queasy and sick.  Luckily I didn't spew.  If I had any advice to the year 6's next year it would be to not freak out about anything, don't be afraid to get dirty, put lots of insect repellent on and have fun.

Learning plans

In class there is a new thing called a learning plan.   It has all these things that you have to get done by a time of a day.  The purpose of it is so you get everything done before the deadline.  If you don't complete it in time you have to finish it in your own time so it's really good to keep people on task.  If you finish it early you get to do some other fun stuff.  Next time I have a learning plan to complete I want to  finish it early so i get lots of time to do some fun stuff.

(Persuasive writing) Why dogs are better than cats.

I strongly believe that dogs are better than cats because dogs are way more fun, energetic and useful to have than cats are.

Firstly, what's so fun about a cat.  They do hardly anything all day but eat, sleep and go to random places, but dogs are way fun, energetic and they love to play.

Secondly, Imagine hunting with a cat.  They would be hopeless at it, but dogs are great at hunting and they are really useful at other stuff too.

Thirdly, you can teach really awesome tricks to dogs like catching a frisbee, fetching a ball and bringing it back to you and even getting the newspaper for you, but a cat couldn't even fit the newspaper in it's mouth.

Fourthly, I went around class to see what people would prefer out of a cat and a dog.  14 people voted for dogs, 3 people voted for cats and 1 person voted for imbetween.  That means that most people prefer dogs more than cats.

Finally, I asked my friend Robbie his opinion about what's better out of cats and dogs and he said "I think dogs are far better than cats because dogs are more playful, energetic, Friendly and they are not scared of people like some cats are".

So there you go.  Dogs are way better than cats because they are more fun, energetic, playful  and useful than cats and I am 100% sure that I have persuaded you that dogs are far better than cats.

3D Shapes

At school we have been learning about 3D shapes.  Most 3D shapes have atleast 1 vertice , 1 edge, and 1 face.  Vertices are pretty much like corners, faces are the sufaces or faces on the shape, and edges are when to faces meet on the shape.  This shape is a rectangular prism.  It has 6 faces, 12 edges and 8 vertices.

This next shape is a pyramid.  It has 5 vertices,  5 faces and 8 edges.

My schools art inquiry

This term our school is doing an inquiry on art, but not just visual art.  Also Music, dance, and drama.  We're going to have two days learning about each of the different arts after lunch and after we have gone through them all we are going to chose one that we are most passionate about to learn about for  around 5 weeks.  We're only half way through the different arts so far and they have been fun so I hope the other 2 are fun as well.

The other day I made an animation called The Guy who Tried to Fly.  It took around 2 or 3 days to film.
After the filming we put it onto iMovie.  Then we added music and sound affects to make it more awesome.  Finally, we put it onto youtube for other people to watch.

How a Candle Works

Candles are a stick of wax with a wik (the stick thing at the top) at the top of it and they are used to make a flame.

The causes to make the flame are solid wax, a wik, the matches and oxygen. These four things make the flame.

After that the effects are made. The effects are smoke, heat, liquid wax and the liquid wax getting soaked up the wik.

Flames need fuel to keep them going so the flame melts the solid wax and it turns into liquid wax. Then the wik soaks up the liquid wax like a tissue soaks up water. Then the liquid wax makes his way to the top of the wik wich is where the flame is, and the flame feeds on the wax to keep it going.

Candles are really useful tools but they can also be dangerous so be careful around them.

My L.P Goal

L.p goals (learning profile goals) are goals such as being a questioner, being organised, using your initiative, being a problem solver, having pride in my achievements and lots more. These goals are really important to learn at school because if you are good at doing these, your learning progress will be way better than it could be. At the moment my goal is being organized. I think that iwill improve on this goal by getting everything ready for stuff before I even have to or get everything done and then go and reward myself. I think that I am improving my goal and if I keep it up,I reckon that I will be able to get organized without even thinking about it.

What I am proud of this term

This term I have been proud of lots of things. One of them is making it to the top of the rewards ladder. There are twelve steps in the rewards ladder. Every time you pass a basic facts test of a rocket spelling test you go up one step. Once you get to the top of the ladder you get a reward of something random. Another thing is going to Young Leaders. It was really fun at Young Leaders and i'm really happy that I went, And just like my old teacher said, it's not a right, It's a privlige. There are lots of things that i am proud of this term and there are a few things right there.

How to Escape From KILLERS BEES

KILLER BEES are dangerous flying insects. They have stingers that can't come of and if they sting you they fly up and rip your skin open, then they fly inside and eat all of your insides. They are also very bad for the environment and they kill flowers by spraying poisonous acid on them. So here is how to escape from KILLER BEES.

1. Run away from the bees.

2. They will chase you so you can't stop running.

3. While running grab something out of your pocket or bag or something and throw it at them.

4. That will attract the bees the bees and they will swarm around it.

5. Run up to them and stomp on them until they are all dead.  Make sure you are wearing shoes.

Remember that KILLER BEES are dangerous and we want to make sure there are none of them left.

Emotional Safety

At school we have been learning about hazards.  One of the hazards is emotional safety.  Emotional safety is like getting bullied.  Some one could tease you or name call you or do physical harm to you. To keep safe from being bullied what you could do is stay near a teacher, or you could run away, or you could just ignore them and don't listen to what they say. It's important to learn about these hazards at school so you can keep safe.

L.P Goal (Learner Profile Goal)

Hi Again. We have been introduced to a new thing in class called your Learner Profile Goal. They're one of the most important things to learn at school. The names of them are Being a Questioner, Being Organised, Having Pride in my Achievments, Using my Intiative, Being an Active Listener, Having Responsibility for Self and Aware of Others, and Being a Problem solver.  My one is being organised.  I think that I can achieve this by cleaning my out my desk, keep my pencils sharp and ready to go, and put all of my pens, pencils, rubbers and that stuff in a pencil case and keep it there.  If I do this I reckon that I will pass the goal so that is what I am going to do.

Young Leaders Dunedin

On 29th of May 20911 we went to Dunedin for young leaders. It was a 3 hour bus drive to Dunedin . The first thing we did was go striaght to the theatre for the main point. When we walked in there was Charlie, who is one of the Whatnow hosts and some other random girl were the presenters of young leaders. We had lots of people come in to talk about what a leader was. There was Alison Shanks, Allison Mooney, Adam Hall, Pat Buckley, And DAVE. My favourite person was DAVE because he had really good humour. After that we all went to the art gallery and had an art session. What we had to do was think of 5 things that represents us. Then we had to draw them on a piece of paper. Each of them had to be bigger than your hand so you had to do lots of over lapping with the objects. Then we went over it with Indian ink. We used Indian ink instead of normal ink because it drys fast and you can smudge it in to make it look really cool. Then with yellow dye we went over the ink to give it a bit of glow on the outsides. After that we coulored everything in with dye and pastel. Then we were done. After that we went to the museum. We played in discovery world for half an hour. discovery world was really cool. There was really awesome contraptions in there. What you had to do for my favourite one was you had a giant cannon shaped thing that works like a hair dryer and you have to blow this inflatible ball though three hoops. It was really hard. Then we had pizza for tea and brownie and biscuits for pudding and then went to bed. In the morning we got up and did an activity in one of the gallarys. In the gallery there were lots of carvings of people. There was also four of these big tall wooden carvings with around 3 people on each of them. Some of the people on the carvings were holding a lizard in their hand. We found out that it meant that they had died from something. After that we looked at all of these wooden instruments that had been carved. They all made really cool noises. After that we left the museum and went to moana pool for a swim. It was really awesome fun. Then we had lunch. It was really yum. We had an orange drink thing, an apple, and a really yum big bun with chicken, cheese, lettuce, and more yum fillings. After lunch we left for home. I had an awesome time and i was sad to go but i was excited to get home aswell.

Jibboo

Hi guys.  Mr Herring has started up a new thing called Jibboo.  The learning in it is learning about money , spending money wisely , and earning money from jobs to help us in the future or something like that.  You can get jobs that you get paid for from the presedent of Jibboo ,(wich is Mr Herring) or you could start up a busniess of your own and sell stuff that you made or something like that , or you can even do both.  The market days are every Thursday so you can make more snidges ,(wich are the dollars) or you could buy stuff from other people with your snidges.  I think it's a very cool thing that Mr Herring made up and I'm sure it'll be loads of fun.  Bye for now.

Book Blurb on COOL

Hi guys, I've read a book called Cool and I made up my own blurb about it.  Here it is.

Robbie just lies there in his coma after being involved in a terrible car crash with his dog called Lucky.  He can hear everything but he can't move or talk.  He can't tell his family that everything is going to be alright. Tonnes of people visit Robbie including a famous football player.  But they can't wake him up.  Will Robbie ever be able to wake up and talk to his family and friends again?

Sailing in the Oyster Regatta

Hi guys.  Tim here again.  I've got some good news to tell you.  On the 26th of March, to the 27 of March, I went to another Sailing Regatta.  This time is was called the Oyster Regatta.  There were only two Optimists in this regatta but it was still good.  It was held in Bluff this time.  We headed out to the sea in our Optimists.  But we had to be towed out because there wasn't enough wind .  Then it was a disaster.  When the race started we were just drifting away from the start line.  There was no wind at all.  And we just stayed driffting till lunch time.  But we had to get towed in of course.  After lunch we headed back out.  Luckily the wind had picked up.  It was a good steady wind.  We fitted three races in.  They were all very close races and we had no idea who was in the lead.  Then at Seven Oclock the party started. There were people dancing, People chatting to each other and there were also alot of oysters.  They were raw too.  Dad said he will give me two dollars if I ate one.  So I did.  I chewed it and swallow it down.  It was disgusting but it was worth it.  The party was over and people were going to sleep.  Day one was over.  In the morning I got ready for day two.  The weather was horrible so sailing was cancelled.  We were just doing random stuff till lunch time like making card castles.  My sister made a huge one that was eight stories high.  Unfortunatly it collapsed on the last card she needed to put on.  Finally It was time for prize giving. First was the sunbursts, Then lasers, Then finally the optimists.  "Second Place is no name" said the man, "and first place is Tim Smith".  Yes.  Once again I have won another Regatta.  I won a new sailing beanie, a box of mnm's, and a bag of chocolate bars.  I was proud of myself that I had won another regatta.  And I had a great time too.  Seeya.

My Multiple Intelligences

Hi guys.  We had a Multiple Intelligence quiz the other day.  But before I tell you my results I better tell you what they are.  Multiple Intelligences are your smarts.  There are lots of them.  There is Bodily-Kinaesthetic (Body Smart), Logical-mathmaticical (Math Smart), Musical (Music Smart), Interpersonal (People Smart), Intrapersonal (Myself Smart), Naturalist (Nature Smart), Visual- Spatial (Picture Smart), and Verbal-Linguistic (Word Smart).  Now you will be wondering why we have them.  We have them so we know what our strengths are.  OK.  Now time for the results.  My best Intelligence is Interpersonal.  Not far from that is My Naturalist Intelligence.  Then Third equal is my Visual-spatial and Musical Intelligences.  The other four ones were tied for fourth and they are Bodily-Kinaesthetic, Verbal-Linguistic, Logical-Mathmatical, and Intrapersonal Intelligences.  They are my results.  I think I'm good at my Interpersonal Intelligence because I've got good team work in my sports and I normally work better in a team.  I think I could improve on my Bodily-Kinaesthetic by getting outside and playing more than normal.  Thanks for reading.

Sailing in the Southland Champs

Hey everybody.  On the 12th of March, to the 13th of March I Went to the Southland Champs for sailing in Te Anau.  Oh, by the way, I sail my boat every Wednesday at bluff in the summers.  I've been sailing for about 2 years now. I'm in a boat  called an optimist and I was sailing in my optimist at the Southland Champs.  I was also in the Green Fleet which is the junior group of optimist sailers.  It was really good fun.  Finally it was over and it was time for the prize giving.  "First up we have the optimist" said the man.  "Third place is no name".  "Second place is no name".  "And First place is Timothy smith".  Yaaay. I was so pleased with myself.  I went up to receive my Trophy.  It was a big shield.  They put my name on it and I took it home.  Then I hung it up on my bedroom wall.  But since I won the green fleet it means that next season I have to be in the open fleet which is the senior group of optimist sailers.  Most of them have been sailing for about 5 or 6 years so this will be more challenging for me.  But I think thats good to have more of a challenge.  Thanks for reading.  By Tim

Why We Blog

Hi,  my name is Tim, and welcome to my blog.  I guess you're wondering why we have blogs.  Let me tell you a bit about them.  We use blogs so we can show the world our work we have done.  You might think that they're just for playing around on the computer.  But it's not.  Blogs can be used for learning as well.  You can put your work on them to show to people.  If you just write in your writing book or do something in your math book the only people that will see it are your teacher, your class mates, and maybe you might take it home  for your family to see.  But with blogs anyone around the world could see it. So I think blogs are a great learning tool to use.
